Twitterrific Developers Launch Tapestry, a “Universal Timeline” App

Tapestry

Tapestry, the new app from Twitterific developer The Iconfactory offers a unified timeline that aggregates posts from Bluesky, Mastodon, and other platforms. The app has just been released on iOS and iPadOS, and it shows developers’ growing interest in decentralized social platforms after Twitter shut down access to its free API two years ago.

“Your content comes from a lot of different places, and how that data is retrieved from a feed is entirely customizable,” the company explained. “Our goal was to put RSS, social media, podcasts, and more into a flexible and easy-to-read timeline. Tapestry syncs this variety of feeds across devices in a way that is seamless, secure, and easy to understand.”

Tapestry provides a chronological feed that can combine posts from Bluesky, Mastodon, and Tumblr, but users can also add websites via RSS feeds, podcasts, YouTube channels, and more. This universal timeline uses different colors to help users identify where the content comes from, and Tapestry also syncs the reading position across devices.

The app is free to use with ads, but users can pay $1.99/month to remove them and get extra features such as custom timelines, feed customization, and more. Tapestry is also private by design and doesn’t share user data with third parties. “Even the ads we show in the free version come from our own ad network that only registers impressions and taps,” the company emphasized.

Tapestry is great for consuming content from multiple places, but it doesn’t support social features from platforms like Bluesky or Mastodon. However, the team said that it’s already working on “a better experience when viewing and creating replies,” content overviews, and a native Mac app.

If you’re interested in social media aggregators like Tapestry, you may also want to check out Openvibe, an app that can currently sync posts from Mastodon, Bluesky, and Threads. Unlike Tapestry, Openvibe can’t sync your reading position across devices, but it does let you interact with posts within the app.
