Sony is dropping the price of its PlayStation VR2 headset two years after its launch. Starting next month, the headset will get a $150 price cut in the US, and European customers will also be able to save €150 on the headset.
Here are the new recommended retail prices for the PlayStation VR2:
With this price cut, the PlayStation VR2 now matches the US launch price of the original PlayStation VR headset, which was also cheaper in the UK (£349) and the EU (€399). While the PS VR2 hardware was well-received, the VR headset suffered from its high price and lack of content. According to a Bloomberg report from March 2024, Sony paused PS VR2 production due to slowing sales after manufacturing over 2 million units.
“With recently released hits like Alien: Rogue Incursion, Skydance’s Behemoth, and Metro Awakening VR, and exciting new game launches on the way including Aces of Thunder, Dreams of Another, Hitman World of Assassination, and The Midnight Walk, it’s never been a better time to jump into the action with PS VR2,” Sony said today. A recent update for the headset also added support for low-latency hand tracking, which will allow game developers to create more immersive experiences.
The PlayStation VR 2 can also be used to play VR games on Steam using the $59.99 PS VR2 PC Adapter. However, some PS VR2 features including HDR, headset feedback, eye tracking, adaptive triggers, and haptic feedback aren’t available when playing on PC.
