Microsoft Issues New Windows 11 23H2 Build, Snipping Tool Update in Preview

Snipping Tool with Text extractor button

Those with a Windows 11 23H2-based PC enrolled in the Insider Program’s Release Preview channel have a new build to install. And those in the Canary channel can access a new Snipping Tool update with a new UI change.

Here’s what’s new.

Release Preview channel

Cumulative update KB5055629 is available for those with a Windows 11 version 23H2-based PC in the Release Preview channel. It will upgrade the OS to build 22631.5261 and add a few new features that we can expect to see appear in stable on the next Patch Tuesday:

  • Narrator speech recap
  • Phone Link integrated with the Start menu
  • File Explorer: “Pivot-based and curated views” in the Home view “that support ease of access of Microsoft 365 content on Windows” (whatever that means) plus performance improvements when extracting ZIP files
  • Windows Share with Edit options
  • Fixes: There are numerous fixes throughout

Snipping Tool

For those with PCs in the Canary channel, there’s a new Snipping Tool update that brings the “Text extractor” button to the app’s capture bar so you can more quickly extract text from a capture screenshot or opened image.
