Meta Announces Update to Threads on the Web

Meta announced it’s moving Threads to Threads.com on the web and adding several new features to the social networking service.

“Today, we’re moving from Threads.net to Threads.com and introducing updates that improve the desktop experience,” the announcement post explains. “Whether you’re a creator or a casual Threads user, these improvements make it even easier to share fresh perspectives and be part of the communities you love.”

Here’s what’s new.

Threads.com. Meta launched Threads on mobile in July 2023 before launching the desktop web experience about a month later on Threads.net. But now the web version will be available at Threads.com.

More customization. Threads supports single- and multi-column views as before, but you can also see your custom feeds at the top of the web experience, as on mobile. There’s also a new “Add a column” button now. And you can add columns for favorite searches, profiles, saved and liked posts, activity, or insights, and drag and drop columns, to create a personalized home view.

Revisit conversations. You can now access your liked and saved posts directly from the main menu icon.

Copy a Threads post. You can now copy a Threads post as an image, instead of taking a screenshot, so you can easily share it on Instagram or elsewhere.

Pop-up composer. When you click the “Create” (“+”) button now, a new pop-up composer appears so you can create a new thread while scrolling through your feeds.

Import contacts. Threads is testing a new feature that allows you to import the lists of people you follow on other services, starting with X/Twitter.
