Meta’s new Threads app is finally getting a full-featured web experience. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced today that the new Threads web app will roll out over the coming days, though it won’t have the same feature set as the mobile apps at launch.
“The new logged-in experience for web lets you post a Thread, view your feed, and interact with other people’s Threads. We’re working hard to bring this experience to parity with mobile and will add more functions to the web version in the coming weeks,” Meta said today.

Thanks to its ties with Instagram, Threads crossed 100 million registered users just five days after its launch in July. However, the lack of a full-featured web app has certainly made it difficult to keep users engaged. While user profiles are currently visible on the web, you need to use the Threads mobile app to post on the platform.
Since its launch, Threads added a chronological feed as an alternative to its algorithmic feed, and it also made reposts visible in that new “Following” feed. For disenchanted Twitter users, there’s already a lot to like on Threads. And since you log in using an Instagram account, it’s also easy to find people you already follow on Instagram on Threads.
Meta promised to make Threads compatible with ActivityPub, the open social networking protocol already supported by Mastodon, WordPress, and other platforms. There’s still no ETA for ActivityPub support, ActivityPub will eventually make Threads the first app from Meta to support some form of interoperability with other services.
