Microsoft Delivers New 24H2 Builds to Dev and Beta Channels

Microsoft today issued new pre-release Windows 11 version 24H2 builds for those with PCs enrolled in the Dev and Beta channels of the Windows Insider Program. As has been the case for much of 2025, these builds each feature the same overlapping features to some degree. But in a departure from that temporary norm, there are some differences as well.

Cumulative update KB5058512 is available now in the Dev channel. This will upgrade Windows 11 version 24H2 to build 26200.5622. And Cumulative update KB5058506 is available now in the Beta channel. Installing it will upgrade the system to build 26120.4230. Features that are common to both include:

• Quick machine recovery. There’s a new Settings page for Quick machine recovery at System > Recovery that provides a way to get Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE)-based remediations if the PC is experiencing boot issues, plus various options related to this new feature.
• Phone Link improvements. The Phone companion feature in Start is getting notifications that are grouped by app, a screen mirroring option for those with compatible phones, and iCloud Memories support for those with an iPhone.

The Dev channel build also includes a few unique features of its own. These include:

• Draft with Copilot in Word. This is new Microsoft 365 text action for Click to Do. This feature requires a Microsoft 365 Copilot subscription.
• Multiple dashboards in Widgets. Windows 11 is getting support for multiple Widgets dashboards. It adds a new navigation bar on the left side of Widgets so you can switch between different dashboards. (This previously previewed with Insiders in the European Economic Area, or EEA.)
• Recommendations in the Open with dialog. This is apparently an experiment, but it shows compatible apps you can install from the Microsoft Store.
• PC migration experience. The Windows Backup-based PC migration experience is starting to roll out with a landing page and pairing page in the app. Future updates will add file and settings transfer capabilities, plus a support in Windows Setup.

There are other changes, but those are the most important, plus various fixes that are common to both builds.
