Apple launched a new repair program for M2 Mac mini models affected by power issues. In a support page published last week (via MacRumors), the company acknowledged that a “very small percentage” of devices manufactured between June 16, 2024 to November 23, 2024 may no longer power on.
The M2 Mac Mini was released in January 2023, a little more than 2 years after the M1 version was released back in November 2020. It was the last model to feature the unibody design introduced back in 2010, which Apple finally replaced with a much smaller, Apple TV-like form factor last year. Despite the redesign, the Mac mini remains the most affordable Mac model on the lineup with a $599 starting price.
Apple didn’t provide additional details about the cause of the issue. Anyway, the company will repair all affected M2 Mac mini devices free of charge, and this will cover eligible models for three years after the first retail sale of the unit. To see if their device is eligible, Mac Mini users will need to submit their serial number (available on the packaging and underside near the regulator markings) on this page.
The Cupertino giant offers this repair service program worldwide at its Retail Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers. However, the repair process doesn’t extend the standard warranty coverage of these Mac mini models.
