GSoD on connecting any Xbox Wireless Controller to my Surface Laptop Studio

I’m running Windows 11 Pro 24H2 (build 26100.4482) on my Surface Laptop Studio, which for whatever reason is in the Insider Program in the Release Preview channel. It works flawlessly with myriad devices connected to it via Bluetooth and cables. Except lately my Xbox Wireless Controllers.

Here’s the scenario: When I try to pair an Xbox Wireless Controller, it generally recognizes and pairs with the device; however, when I connect the device, one of two things happens. Either the device does nothing (like no apps recognize that it’s even connected), or I immediately get a Green Screen of Death (SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED), and the entire system reboots.

To be clear, I’ve tested multiple Xbox Wireless Controllers. One is an Xbox One era controller and the other is a Xbox Series X/S era controller. And they both behave the same way. I’ve also tested those same controllers on other PCs, phones, tablets, and Xbox consoles, and they work flawlessly. I’ve ensured the controllers’ firmware is up-to-date.

I’ve unpaired the controllers. I’ve gone into Device Manager and removed the Xbox Wireless Controller entry from the Bluetooth devices tree. I’ve stopped short of completely removing the Bluetooth driver, as the last time I did that (on a different Surface a few years ago), I remember it kind of being a nightmare trying to get everything working properly again. But I am willing to try that if anyone thinks it would make a difference. I’ve also considered just resetting the system completely to get it out of the Insider Program and hopefully fix the issue in the process.

Ultimately, I don’t know that any of that is justified given that I don’t game on this system particularly often, but it just seems like it should work. Any suggestions? Thanks!
