Nintendo is Raising the Price of the Original Switch in Canada

Nintendo is raising the price of its original Switch consoles and games in Canada. The price increases affect all Switch consoles, including the OLED and Lite models, as well as physical and digital games, Switch accessories, and Nintendo Switch Online memberships.

“Pricing for the original Nintendo Switch family of systems and products in Canada will change based on market conditions,” the company briefly explained in a press release. The Nintendo Switch 2 and its games and accessories won’t be affected, however.

It’s a bit surprising to see the company announce price increases for a console that recently celebrated its 8th anniversary. Sony and Microsoft both announced price increases for their current-gen consoles earlier this year, though the PlayStation 5 didn’t get a price bump in the US. The console was even discounted for a limited time last month.

Nintendo plans to reveal the new pricing information for its original Nintendo Switch and its accessories on August 1. In the meantime, Nintendo enthusiasts in Canada have a month to purchase Switch consoles, games, and accessories at their current price.

As of this writing, the Nintendo Switch Lite is priced at CA$269, the regular Nintendo Switch (LCD) at CA$400, and the Switch OLED at CA$450. The Nintendo Switch 2, however, launched at CA$630 in Canada.
