Sony is Raising PlayStation 5 Prices in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand

Sony is raising the price of its PlayStation 5 consoles in Europe, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand today. The PlayStation 5 Digital Edition is getting a price bump in all these markets while the regular PS5 with a disc drive is not affected. However, the optional PS5 Disc Drive is getting a small price drop in these same markets.

“With a backdrop of a challenging economic environment, including high inflation and fluctuating exchange rates, SIE has made the tough decision to raise the recommended retail price of the PlayStation 5 console in select markets in Europe, Middle East and Africa, Australia and New Zealand,” Sony said today.

It’s unclear why the US isn’t affected despite President Trump’s recent tariffs on China. The previous PS5 price increase in August 2022 also didn’t affect the US, where the PS5 with disc drive remains available at $499.99.

Here are the new prices for the PS5 Digital Edition and optional disc drive in the EU, UK, Australia, and New Zealand:

Europe:

  • PS5 Digital Edition – €499.99 (previously €449.99)
  • PS5 Disc Drive – €79.99 (previously €119.99)

UK:

  • PS5 Digital Edition – £429.99 (previously £389.99)
  • PS5 Disc Drive – £69.99 (previously £99.99)

Australia:

  • PS5 Digital Edition – AUD $749.95
  • Standard PS5 with Disc Drive – AUD $829.05
  • PS5 Disc Drive – AUD $124.95

New Zealand

  • Standard PS5 with Disc Drive – NZD $949.95
  • PS5 Digital Edition – NZD $859.95
  • PS5 Disc Drive – NZD $139.95

These new prices are effective today. In Europe and the UK, the PS5 Digital Edition now matches the price of Microsoft’s all-digital white Xbox Series X, which is also priced at €499.99/£429.99. It will be interesting to see if Microsoft and Nintendo are also going to announce price increases. The latter recently delayed pre-orders of its new Switch 2 in the US and Canada over Trump tariffs concerns.
