The latest version of Opera arrives with integrated language translation capabilities and a major upgrade for Split Screen.
“We’re introducing an integrated webpage translator that will make it easier for you to browse websites in other languages,” Opera’s Santiago Benavides García writes. “We’re also bringing improvements to the Split Screen feature we released last year.”
Here’s what’s new.
Opera Translate. Aria already provided some language translation features for Opera, but with this release, the browser is getting a built-in webpage translator called Opera Translate that supports 40 languages and is offered automatically with a pop-up. Opera Translate is the result of Opera’s partnership with Lingvanex, and it’s hosted on Opera’s European-based servers, not sent to any third parties, and “subject to the strictest privacy regulations on the planet.”
Split Screen improvements. Split Screen now works with Tab Islands. You can open a pair of pages in Split Screen as a Tab Island, move two tabs in Split Screen from one Tab Island to another, and join two tabs in a Tab Island into a Split Screen view. The toolbar(s) you see in Split Screen were also updated. The right tab will show the icons for Account, Easy Setup, Download, Extensions, and the pinned player, and when you hover over either tab, you will see icons for Pinboards, Snapshot, Privacy Protections, Flow, and Add to bookmarks.
Password manager improvements. Opera’s password manager pop-up gets a new design.
