Microsoft 365 Apps on Windows 10 Will No Longer Receive New Features After August 2026

Office 2019

With Windows 10 about to reach end of support in October 2025, Microsoft is sharing more details about how it plans to continue supporting Microsoft 365 apps on the OS. Earlier this year, the company announced that Windows 10 users will continue to receive security updates for these apps until October 2028, but we now know when feature updates will stop.

In a support page spotted by The Verge, Microsoft said that Microsoft 365 apps will no longer receive new features on Windows 10 after August 2026, which is when the version 2608 of the apps will be released on the Current Channel for Microsoft 365 Home subscriptions. The 2608 update will arrive on October 13, 2026 on the Monthly Enterprise Channel, and on January 12, 2027 on the Semi-annual Enterprise Channel.

To continue receiving feature updates after August 2026, Office users on Windows 10 will need to upgrade to Windows 11. As for technical support, if an issue only occurs on Windows 10 and not on Windows 11, support agents will also recommend customers to move to Windows 11 if there are no easy workarounds.

Upgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 11 remains free on PCs that meet the minimum hardware requirements. However, Windows 10 users who can’t upgrade to Windows 11 can still get one year of Extended Security Updates for free by either using the Windows Backup app or redeeming 1,000 Microsoft Rewards points.
