Google is launching a new virtual try-on shopping feature in the US that lets users see what they might look like wearing clothes found via the search engine. The AI-powered feature first launched via Google’s Search Labs portal in May, and Google says that it works with “billions” of items integrated into its Shopping Graph.
To get started, US users need to tap on any product listing across Google Search, Google Shopping, and product results on Google Images. A “try it on” icon will appear, inviting them to upload a full-length photo of themselves. The AI-generated picture with the chosen clothes will appear within seconds, and it can be saved and shared with others.
Last month, Google also released Doppl, a new mobile app that lets users create videos of themselves wearing outfits they like. Compared to the virtual try-on feature that’s now available in the US, Doppl goes even further by converting static images into videos.
Google’s new AI-powered shopping tools can also help users purchase items when the price is right. In the US, Google has updated its “track price” feature to allow users to choose their preferred size, color, and the price they’re willing to pay. These price alerts work for all items that integrate with the company’s Shopping Graph.
Later this fall, Google’s AI Mode in Search will also become capable of generating pictures of outfits and room designs based on real items to help users find shopping inspiration. “Our vision match technology will generate a range of visual options for your query and use the 50 billion products in the Shopping Graph to show product listings for visual matches we think you’ll like,” the company explained. AI Mode in Search is still an experimental feature that’s exclusively available in the US.
