Google’s NotebookLM has emerged as one of the most impressive and capable AI tools we have, and now it’s getting even better.
“NotebookLM’s Video Overviews distill complex information into clear, digestible content, paired with a powerful, redesigned Studio panel,” Google senior UX designer Shan Wang writes. “Today we’re introducing these updates to make NotebookLM even more powerful and collaborative.”
Here’s what’s new.
Video overviews. Google introduced Audio overviews in NotebookLM last year, and then it announced a similar Video overviews feature at Google I/O this past May. It’s exactly what it sounds like, and it’s available now so users can create a visual alternative to Audio overviews with images, diagrams, quotes, and numbers to help explain the message. This initial release is English only, but support for more languages is on the way, Google says.
Studio upgrades. Google is updating the Studio panel in NotebookLM with a new look and several new features. You can now create and store multiple studio outputs of the same type in a single notebook, create Audio overviews in multiple languages, create Audio and Video overviews tailored to different team roles, and create outputs like Mind Maps and Video overviews that focus only on part of a notebook. This is rolling out to all users over the next few weeks.
