Microsoft Releases August 2025 Patch Tuesday Updates

Windows 11 PC

Microsoft has just released the August 2025 Patch Tuesday updates for all supported versions of Windows, and the version 24H2 of Windows 11 is getting quite a lot of new features this month. Users with Copilot+ PCs are getting new Click to Do actions and Recall improvements, and this update also marks the rollout of what Microsoft calls a “more streamlined interface” to replace the classic Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) during unexpected restarts.

Here are the main new features that will roll out gradually to users who install today’s KB5063878 update for Windows 11 version 24H2:

Recall EU availability (Copilot+ PCs only): The AI-powered feature, which is still in preview, is now available in the European Economic Area (EEA).

Reset Recall (Copilot+ PCs only): You can now reset Recall and delete all its data by going to Settings > Privacy & Security > Recall & Snapshots.

Click to Do improvements (Copilot+ PCs only): The AI feature is getting new actions like Practice in Reading Coach, Read with Immersive Reader, Draft with Copilot in Word, send a Teams message, and schedule a Teams meeting.

New AI agent in Settings (Copilot+ PCs only):  Users will be able to use natural language to find settings in the Windows 11 Settings app. This is available in preview for those with a Snapdragon X-based Copilot+ PC using English.

Quick machine recovery: This useful new feature will automatically detect and fix issues that trigger unexpected restarts. It’s tied to a new “unexpected restart experience,” i.e. BSoD, that reduces the reboot wait time from 40 seconds to as little as 2 seconds on most PCs running Windows 11 version 24H2. More below.

New UI for unexpected restarts: The scary blue BSOD has been replaced with a black screen with technical details. The new screen also matches Windows 11’s visual style.

Simplified Windows Search settings: Microsoft has combined the existing separate pages for Windows Search settings into a new combined page available via Settings > Privacy & security > Search.

Snap layouts improvements: Inline messages with helpful tips now appear when you accidentally open the Snap Bar by dragging an app to the upper center of your desktop or open the Snap menu by hovering over the Minimize or Maximize button.

Gamepad layout for the Windows touch keyboard: This new gamepad layout now supports enhanced controller navigation and improved focus handling for child keys, menus, word suggestions, language switching, and settings. A new Gamepad keyboard with PIN sign-in is also available on the Windows lock screen.

Again, all of these new features will roll out gradually to Windows 11 users running the version 24H2 of the OS. The KB5063875 update is also available for Windows 11 version 23H2, but only includes bug fixes and no new features.

On the security front, Microsoft is fixing 107 new vulnerabilities in Windows and other components this month, with 12 of them being rated as “critical.” You can learn more details about these security patches for August 2025 on the blog post from the Zero Day Initiative.
