The ASUS ROG Xbox Ally won’t be the only new Windows-based gaming handheld to launch in October, as Lenovo just announced a release window and pricing details for its Legion Go 2 at IFA 2025 today. First announced as a prototype design at CES 2025, the Legion Go 2 will once again be bigger than its competitor by keeping its 8.8-inch touchscreen.
Lenovo is replacing the 2560×1600 IPS panel on the original model with a 1920×1 200 144Hz OLED display with VRR and HDR support. The new gaming handheld also comes with a faster AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme chip with 8 cores and 16 threads, up to 32GB of memory, and up to 2TB of storage that can be extended with a microSD slot.
Two USB4 ports are also available on both the top and bottom of the device, and a fingerprint sensor is now included into the power button. The Legion Go 2 also includes a 3.5mm audio combo jack, a dual-array near-field microphone, and it supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.
Lenovo included a bigger 74Whr battery in the Legion 2 that’s over 50% higher in capacity compared to the original model. The new handheld still comes with a kickstand and more ergonomic detachable TrueStrike controllers with Hall effect joysticks and a redesigned button layout. The new controllers are also backwards compatible with the original Legion Go.

“The new Legion Go 2 allows gamers to go even farther with customization, tailoring the experience to their own specific criteria, whether they’re at a desk, on the sofa, on a plane, or on stage,” the company explained today. The gaming handheld offers 3 user-programmable buttons that can be configured via the Legion Space app. The detachable TrueStrike controllers will also add support for new console, tablet, and handheld modes.
The Lenovo Legion Go 2 will also be available starting October 2025 with an expected starting price of $1,049, which is quite expensive for a gaming handled. Microsoft has yet to announce pricing details for the ASUS Rog Xbox Ally, which will be released in select markets on October 16. However, the premium Ally X with the same AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme chip but just 24GB of RAM will likely be cheaper.
