Vivaldi announced the latest release of its mobile web browser, with a notably major update on iPhone and iPad.
“We are rolling out Vivaldi 7.6 for iOS and Android,” Vivaldi founder and CEO Jon von Tetzchner writes. “This release brings some massive upgrades to iOS that make reading, searching, and multitasking a lot better. On Android, organizing bookmarks gets easier with a new button for creating folders on the fly, plus a round of stability and performance fixes.”
Here’s what’s new.
Vivaldi 7.6 for iPhone and iPad
- Reader view. As you would expect, this eliminates ads and other distractions from web-based articles and provides a customizable reading experience with theme/color, font, brightness, and size options.
- Custom search engine support. In addition to providing access to several popular web search engines, you can now configure new search engines of your choice with optional short nicknames.
- Tab Switcher improvements. The Tab Switcher now has a dedicated pane for Tab Stacks, the Vivaldi replacement for a grid of tab thumbnails.
- Link previews. Now, you can long-press on a hyperlink to get a live preview of the underlying webpage without having to navigate there first.
You can download Vivaldi 7.6 for iPhone and iPad from the Apple App Store.
Vivaldi 7.6 for Android
- Bookmark folders improvements. You can now create a bookmark folder directly in the Save bookmark dialog.
- Stability and bug fixes. The browser maker “spent time under the hood so Vivaldi feels steadier and quicker across more devices” on Android, with fixes for crashes related to multiple tabs, smoother scrolling on long pages, more reliable sync, reduced battery use when in the background, and UI refinements to dark mode and the tablet layout.
You can download Vivaldi for Android from the Google Play Store.
