Google Play and YouTube Purchases No Longer Sync to Movies Anywhere Libraries

Google Play YouTube Movies Anywhere

Movies Anywhere, the Disney-operated service that syncs eligible movies purchased from various digital stores into one unified collection, no longer supports Google Play and YouTube purchases. The US-only digital locker quietly announced the news last week on a support page spotted by The Desk.

“Effective 10/31/25, Google Play/YouTube will no longer participate in the Movies Anywhere program,” the message reads. However, according to The Verge, eligible Google Play/YouTube movie purchases that were synced to Movies Anywhere before October 31 are still available on the service, so this may only affect new purchases.

Movies Anywhere, which first launched as Disney Movies Anywhere back in 2014, is a pretty great service that allows US consumers to buy a digital movie once and stream it across participating apps, including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and YouTube. The service is completely free to use, and all users have to do is connect their digital retailer accounts to their Movies Anywhere accounts to build their unified movie collection.

It’s not immediately clear why Movies Anywhere is dropping support for Google Play/YouTube purchases, but this may well have something to do with the ongoing contractual dispute that led to the removal of Disney-owned channels from YouTube TV last week. While Google has started offering $10 monthly credits to YouTube TV subscribers to compensate for Disney pulling its channels from the platform, the deal dispute has also led to the removal of Disney content from the Google Play Store and YouTube.
