Apple Silicon Chief Dismisses Report Announcing His Possible Departure

Apple Johny Srouji

Johny Srouji, the senior vice president of Hardware Technologies at Apple, overseeing the development of the company’s in-house chips has dismissed a recent report announcing his possible departure. Over the weekend, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that Srouji had told Apple CEO Tim Cook that he was seriously considering leaving the company in the near future, right when Apple seems to be going through a serious exodus of talent.

In an internal memo shared with his division and obtained by Bloomberg, Srouji said that he wasn’t going anywhere. “I know you’ve been reading all kind of rumors and speculations about my future at Apple, and I feel that you need to hear from me directly,” the exec said in the memo. “I love my team, and I love my job at Apple, and I don’t plan on leaving anytime soon.”

In recent years, Srouji has often made appearances in Apple’s digital events to discuss the company’s latest chips, which now include C-Series cellular modems and the new N1 chip for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Thread connectivity. These new chips allowed Apple to really push forward with its vertical integration strategy, and the company continues to make some of the best ARM-based chips on the market for mobile devices.

According to Gurman’s sources, Tim Cook has been “working aggressively” to make Srouji stay at Apple, offering the exec a “substantial pay package” and even more responsibilities.
