Apple is reportedly planning to introduce ads to its Maps app as soon as this summer, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The reporter, who previously revealed the company’s advertising plans back in October, says that an official announcement may come before the end of the month.
“The system will operate similarly to advertising in Google Maps, allowing retailers and brands to bid for ad slots against search queries, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the plans are private,” Gurman wrote. These new ads are set to appear on the iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and web versions of Apple Maps, the reporter added.
Apple is already showing ads on its App Store, plus other places like Apple News, the Stocks app, and Apple Podcasts, which will soon add support for dynamic advertising. Apple Maps, which had approximately 500 million users in 2024, seems like a logical candidate for Apple’s advertising expansion.
According to the report, the arrival of ads in Apple Maps will follow the addition of new ad slots in the App Store. The company is also reportedly looking to increase advertising within its News app, which is currently only available in the US, the UK, Canada, and Australia.
