Google Home Gets More Gemini Updates

Google continues to update Gemini in Google Home with a flurry of useful functional upgrades, but this month has been notably impressive in that regard.

“Our latest updates for Gemini for Home deliver more reliable music playback, better organization of notes and lists, faster response times for date and time questions, and Gemini for Home is less likely to mistakenly cut you off if you’re still speaking to it,” the Google Nest Help site explains.

Here’s what’s new in addition to the Workspace account compatibility it added earlier in April.

Improved media and playlist support. Gemini is now better at identifying your personal playlists. Google has tuned its AI models to reduce “incorrect artist” errors and other misunderstandings. And Gemini is now more responsive when you say “pause.”

Notes and lists improvements. You can manage lists using natural language, do more in a single step, and Gemini is now more accurate when you reference a note or list.

Reduced interruptions. Google says it’s refined how Gemini determines you’re done speaking so that it can understand your command on the first try and deliver more natural interactions.

Improved contextual understanding. Gemini combines context clues to better understand your intent, Google says. This helps it choose the right action for more reliable, consistent results.

Parental controls and Digital wellbeing. The Parental controls & Digital wellbeing interface in the Google Home app can be used to set content filters, limit screen time, pause access to devices, and schedule quiet periods to disconnect from Gemini for Home for supervised accounts and guests, or for everyone.

Bug fixes and reliability and performance improvements. In addition to the obvious, Google fixed Camera issues and improved the thermostat settings.

Global expansion. Gemini for Home is now available in 16 new countries–Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom–and 7 new languages: Danish, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, and Swedish.
