Netflix announced yesterday that it will bring its ad-supported plan to 15 new countries across Europe, South America, and the Asia Pacific region. The expansion will happen in 2027, which is also when the streaming service plans to launch new ad inventory across podcasts and vertical video.

The list of new countries that will get access to Netflix with ads next year includes Austria, Belgium, Colombia, Denmark, Indonesia, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, the Philippines, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, and Thailand. In the US, Netflix with ads launched at $6.99/month back in November 2022, but following two price increases, it’s now priced at $8.99 per month, with an additional member costing $7.99 per month.

“We’ve got cutting-edge technology, we’ve got great entertainment across shows, movies, podcasts, and live events, and we’ve got the most engaged and attentive audience. We’ve proven we’re effective, and now we’re expanding ads to more places and we’re ready to compete with anyone,” said Amy Reinhard, Netflix’s President of Advertising at the company’s Upfront conference this week.

Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings previously expressed his regrets about not launching an ad-supported plan earlier, and it’s hard to disagree with that. Four years later, the streaming service says that Netflix with ads now reaches more than 250M global monthly active viewers. “These viewers are deeply engaged: over 80% of ads members are actively watching every week,” the company also said this week.
