Google Details Strict Hardware Requirements for Gemini Intelligence on Android

Gemini Intelligence, the new agentic AI system designed to automate various actions on Android devices, will have some pretty strict hardware requirements. Google announced during its Android Show last week that it has been testing Gemini Intelligence on the Samsung Galaxy S26 and Google Pixel 10 series, but the AI features will only be supported on Android devices with at least 12GB of RAM and select flagship mobile SoCs.

As reported by Android Authority, Google lists minimum specs for Gemini Intelligence at the bottom of the Gemini Intelligence landing page on its Android website. The mention of 12GB+ of RAM is already higher than the 8GB of memory Apple requires on iPhones, iPads, and Macs to support Apple Intelligence features.

The minimum hardware requirements list for Gemini Intelligence also indicates the presence of Android AICore, which uses local storage to run Gemini Nano models directly on Android phones. Gemini Intelligence will require Google’s Gemini Nano v3 model or greater. A Google developer page details a limited list of Android phones that support this AI model, which you can see below:

As you can see, there’s not a lot of choice beyond the Pixel 10 series, the Galaxy S26 series, the OnePlus 15 series, and select high-end phones from Oppo, realme, Honor, and Motorola. We haven’t really seen what Gemini Intelligence is capable of, so it’s too early to tell if this is something that may push some Android users to upgrade to a new phone.

On the Apple front, it’s clear that people with iPhones that don’t support Apple Intelligence aren’t really missing much, as the long-awaited Siri update won’t be coming until iOS 27 later this year. However, Gemini Intelligence promises to do much more than Apple Intelligence, with the ability to automate multi-step tasks across your apps, create custom widgets with natural language prompts, and more.

In addition to high-end Android phones, Gemini Intelligence will also come to Googlebooks, which are an evolution of Chromebooks powered by a new OS that merges Android and ChromeOS. Google also said that Gemini Intelligence will be coming to smartwatches and cars, but the minimum hardware requirements are currently unclear.
