Valve has just announced a big price increase for its Steam Deck OLED handheld, which is now back in stock. The 512GB model now starts at $789, while the 1TB model now costs $949, which represents a $300 (or 46%) price increase.
“Steam Deck itself hasn’t changed; these new prices reflect the current state of component costs and other global logistical challenges across the industry as a whole. We’ll keep you updated if anything changes,” Valve said today.
Here are the new Steam Deck OLED prices in major markets:
As of this writing, both Steam Deck OLED models have an estimated delivery date of 3-5 business days. If Valve has yet to reveal the price for its upcoming Steam Machine and Steam Frame VR headset, the Steam Deck OLED getting a big price bump isn’t exactly reassuring. It also remains to be seen if other gaming handhelds like the Asus ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X will also become more expensive.
Unfortunately, the AI-fueled RAM crisis continues to make a lot of electronic devices more expensive. Two months ago, Sony also raised the price of its PlayStation 5 consoles, citing “continued pressures in the global economic landscape. The Nintendo Switch 2 also received a price bump in Japan two days ago, with other markets to follow on September 1.
