Google’s NotebookLM App Now Syncs Files With Google Drive

NotebookLM, Google’s AI research tool that can synthesize information from local and online sources, can now sync content with Google Drive. When adding Google Drive documents to a notebook in NotebookLM, the app will now always have access to the latest versions of the files.

“Previously, if you uploaded a file in Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides, you’d have to manually update it in NotebookLM to see the changes. With this update, as the content in your Drive files evolves, the information within the notebook updates automatically to match. This update ensures that you’re always working with the most accurate and up-to-date information without the manual effort of re-syncing files,” Google explained yesterday.

This automatic Google Drive syncing in NotebookLM will be rolling out gradually to Google Workspace customers and users with personal Google accounts over the coming days. While this should make it easier to keep sources up to date in NotebookLM, users should also be aware that removing a file from Google Drive will also remove it from the research assistant’s sources list.

NotebookLM is currently available on the web and mobile, and the app is free to use. However, users with a Google AI plan get access to more features, including up to 600 sources per notebook and high access to Google’s more advanced Gemini models.
