Health in ChatGPT is Rolling Out to All US Users

OpenAI announced yesterday that it’s making a new Health experience in ChatGPT available for all US users aged 18 and older. The new Health experience, which can be accessed from the sidebar in ChatGPT, is rolling out on the web and iOS across Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans.

As you may recall, OpenAI made a dedicated Health space available for a limited group of ChatGPT users outside of the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the UK in January. The company said at the time that hundreds of millions of ChatGPT users were asking health and wellness questions each week, so the company made it possible to securely connect medical records and wellness apps to more informed responses.

Yesterday, OpenAI said that it now has “more than 300 million people” asking health-related questions to ChatGPT every week. With the new Health experience that’s now rolling out in the US, ChatGPT users can connect Apple Health and other supported medical records to have health conversations grounded in their personal information.

“With your permission, ChatGPT can now draw on relevant information you’ve connected in Health to help you compare a new result with prior tests, summarize changes since your last appointment, or explore how sleep, activity, and workouts relate to your routine. This can reduce the need to repeatedly gather, upload, or explain the same details, helping you feel more informed, ask better questions, and take a more active role in your health while supporting, not replacing, the care you receive from medical professionals,” the company explained.

OpenAI emphasized that it’s not using Connected medical records and Apple Health information for AI training and ad targeting. All health conversations are also encrypted, with additional encryption protecting users’ health information.

The AI startup said that it worked with a team of physicians around the world to train its GPT‑5.5 Instant and GPT‑5.6 Sol to better handle health conversations. Notably, ChatGPT users can still ask health questions to the chatbot without connecting their personal information. The
