Xbox Gamers Purchasing Select Ubisoft Games Will Now Get the PC Version for Free

Ubisoft is expanding its partnership with Xbox in a pretty big way today. After bringing most of its games to Game Pass a couple of years ago, the company will now give Xbox players who own or purchase some of its games on the Microsoft Store a free PC copy through its Ubisoft Connect launcher.

This new Xbox console-to-PC offer from Ubisoft will apply to the following 13 games at launch:

• Assassin’s Creed Mirage
• Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
• Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
• Far Cry 6
• Immortals Fenyx Rising
• Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
• Riders Republic
• Skull and Bones
• The Crew 2
• The Crew Motorfest
• Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction
• Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege
• Watch Dogs Legion

“From July 21 onwards, customers that purchase a digital version of the listed titles will immediately get the XBOX console and XBOX on PC digital versions. For existing owners of an XBOX digital version of the listed titles, you will receive the PC version during a progressive rollout period between July 21 and August 4,” the Xbox team explained today.

This new dual-entitlement offer isn’t exactly similar to Microsoft’s Xbox Play Anywhere program, which grants access to the Xbox and PC versions of a game with full cross-save and cross-progression support. This is strictly a console-to-PC offer, so purchasing the PC version of a Ubisoft game won’t give customers the Xbox version for free.

Moreover, while Season Pass or add-on content purchased on Xbox should transfer to the PC version, in-game currencies and consumables are not included in this offering. Lastly, not all Ubisoft games in the above list support cross-progression between Xbox and PC.

Ubisoft also announced today that it’s making more of its games available from the Xbox app on PC. The list of new additions includes Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Star Wars Outlaws, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, Skull and Bones, and Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. While the Xbox Wire post doesn’t mention it, I presume that these PC games are still accessed through the Ubisoft Connect app, similar to how games from Blizzard and EA integrate with the Xbox app on PC through Battle.net and the EA desktop app, respectively.
