New Xbox Insider Update Adds Local Game Saves Management and More

Xbox Insider manage local game saves

Xbox gamers will soon be able to manage their local game saves and delete them to free up storage on their consoles. The new feature is rolling out first to Alpha Skip-Ahead and Alpha Xbox Insiders, along with wishlist improvements and more.

“Starting today, you can view, sort, and delete local game saves that aren’t currently in use, helping you make space for the games you’re currently playing,” the Xbox team explained today. The latest saves for all games are always backed up to the Xbox network, so after a local save for a specific game has been deleted, it will be automatically re-downloaded from the cloud upon launch.

After the August Xbox update added the ability to add up to 1,000 games to the Microsoft Store wish list, another welcome improvement is on the way: Purchasing a game that had been wishlisted will now automatically remove it from the list. You have to wonder why that wasn’t the case before, but this is finally getting fixed.

To give Xbox gamers more control over their Home dashboard, Microsoft is also introducing the ability to remove any item in the Recent Games and Apps list, including the Play History tile. A new immersive background mode, which can be enabled by pressing the right thumbstick button, will also hide everything on the Home dashboard to make the background image really shine.

Lastly, Xbox Insiders will now be able to view detailed information about all the profile badges they unlocked, including when and how they were obtained. And as the 25th anniversary of Xbox is approaching, gamers who unlocked the Day One achievement on November 22, 2013, the day the Xbox One was released, will get a new commemorative Day One profile badge to celebrate.
