Apple Announces iPhone Event on September 9

Apple just announced that its next hardware event will take place on September 9, two days after Labor Day in the US. This will be the first Apple event with John Ternus as the new CEO of the company, as current CEO Tim Cook is set to transition to a new executive chairman role on September 1.

The event will be streamed live at 10 AM PT, and the “surprise and shine” tagline for it hints at a new product announcement. If the leaks are accurate, we should see Apple announce its first foldable iPhone. Rumors suggest that it may be branded “iPhone Ultra,” mirroring what the company did with its Apple Watch product line.

This fall, Apple is expected to shake up its iPhone release schedule in a pretty major way. We may only see the new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max announced alongside the foldable iPhone, with the regular iPhone 18 not shipping until spring 2027. This is also when Apple is expected to release a more affordable iPhone 18E. Unfortunately, all iPhone models may get a price hike due to the component crisis.

Apple usually announces new Apple Watch models during its September event, and we’re likely to see the Apple Watch Series 12 and the Apple Watch Ultra 4. Apple also has several home products in the pipeline, including new versions of the HomePod mini and Apple TV set-top box. However, they may not be announced during the event. The company’s first smart home display, which is also expected to be released this fall, may not make an appearance during the event.

Yesterday, Apple also announced a new Mac mini with M6 and M5 Pro chips, as well as a refreshed Mac Studio with M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips. However, these new Mac models won’t start shipping until September 22.
