Google Reveals First Googlebooks From Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo

Google has teamed up with Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo to launch the first series of Googlebooks, which are a new category of premium laptops aiming to offer the best of Android and ChromeOS. These first Googlebooks are available for pre-order today with a $899 starting price, and they will start shipping in the US, Canada, the U.K., Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia in early October.

“Built on the Android technology stack and paired with desktop foundations from ChromeOS, Googlebook is designed for Gemini Intelligence and engineered to work with your Android phone right out of the box,” said John Solomon, Vice President, General Manager, Laptops, Tablets & Android Enterprise. Gemini Intelligence already made its debut on Google’s Pixel 11 series and Samsung’s latest Galaxy Z series, and on Googlebooks, it will allow users to create custom widgets by describing what they want to see in natural language.

Google integrated many synergies with Android phones into its Googlebooks software. After users log in with their Google account, the system will seamlessly sync their saved passwords, messages, Wi-Fi networks, and Android phone’s settings. The Files app on Googlebooks will also show files and photos from a linked Android phone.

Googlebooks will offer a Handoff-like feature called Continue On that lets users continue a task they started on their Android phone. Cast My Apps, another continuity feature, will make it possible to access apps from an Android phone in a windowed interface.

All Googlebooks will come with a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) capable of over 45 TOPS. This will enable intelligent features such as Magic Pointer, which will make Gemini accessible right where the mouse cursor points to. “You can ask Gemini to organize a messy calendar or translate text without juggling multiple windows. Gemini only acts when you ask it to, and you can switch it off whenever you want,” Solomon explained.

Rambler is another Gemini Intelligence feature that will be integrated right next to the Quick Insert key. It will provide seamless conversational thought capture and auto-structuring.

Besides the shared Android foundation and new Gemini Intelligence features, Google emphasized that Googlebooks offer the same security architecture as ChromeOS, with on-device malware detection, up to 10 years of security updates, and “regular feature drops.” Googlebook users also get access to millions of Android apps on the Play Store, plus an isolated Linux environment with full terminal access running through a secure hypervisor.

“For builders and makers, Googlebook includes Antigravity, our AI agent development platform, allowing you to build, test, and deploy apps right on your device. Developers working on the frontier also get a full terminal environment to run tools like Claude CLI or Antigravity CLI and perform serious agentic coding,” Solomon added.

The first Googlebook models from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo are premium-looking devices using high-end materials such as aluminum, magnesium alloy, and carbon fiber. Under the hood, all of them come with a minimum of 16GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and Intel or Qualcomm CPUs. Google also mentioned the inclusion of up to 2.8K OLED displays, haptic glass trackpads, backlit keyboards, and an exterior Glowbar that animates when Gemini is talking. The Glowbar will also light up when Googlebooks are booting up, and it will also indicate the battery level in real time.

Acer is the only manufacturer to offer a convertible Googlebook model with its Intel-powered Googlebook 14” starting at $899. HP, Dell, Lenovo, and Asus all offer clamshell devices with displays ranging from 13” to 15.3”. HP and Dell use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X1 Elite chips in their devices, while the other companies chose an Intel Core Ultra 3 (Panther Lake) chip. All models will offer up to 14 hours of video playback and 16 hours of web browsing.

Lastly, every Googlebook purchase will include 12 months of Google AI Pro, 3 months of YouTube Premium and Adobe Photoshop, and one year of cloud gaming with GeForce NOW. In the US, these first Googlebooks are available to pre-order from the Google Store, Best Buy, and other retailers before they start shipping on October 4. The devices will become available a day later in Canada, Australia, the UK, Ireland, France, and Germany.
