Samsung Reveals its New Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8, and Flip8 Foldable Phones

Samsung revealed its brand new Galaxy Z series of foldable phones at its Galaxy Unpacked event in London today. This year, the company is launching a premium Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra model that starts at $2,100, in addition to more affordable Galaxy Fold8 and Flip8 models. The “regular” Galaxy Fold8 has also been redesigned with a wider screen that offers a 4:3 display when unfolded.

The three new phones also support Gemini Intelligence, a new set of agentic features allowing users to automate certain tasks. Gemini Notebook, the new name of Google’s NotebookLM app, is also now preinstalled on Samsung’s latest foldable phones.

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra

The $2,100 Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is Samsung’s new top-of-the-line foldable phone, and it comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, up to 16GB of memory, up to 1TB of storage, and a larger 5,000 mAh battery that now supports 45Wwatt wired charging and 20W wireless charging. The 6.5-inch cover display and 8-inch main display both have a 120Hz refresh rate, and the phone uses Samsung’s new titanium-based display structure designed to help make foldables thinner while maintaining durability.

Samsung emphasized that the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is its thinnest model yet, measuring just 4.1 mm when unfolded and weighing 215g, despite the larger battery. The phone also features an expanded graphite cooling structure to improve heat dissipation, and it still comes with a triple camera system with a 200MP wide-angle sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide camera, and a 10MP telephoto camera.

Galaxy Z Fold8

The Galaxy Z Fold8, which starts at $1,900, is Samsung’s new mid-tier model offering a new shorter and wider form factor. There’s a 5.5-inch cover screen with a 10:16 aspect ratio and a 7.6-inch main screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio, and both offer a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. The phone also uses the same new Flex Titanium technology as the more expensive Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra.

“Fold8 introduces a form factor designed to move easily from quick interactions on the cover screen to deeper viewing, reading and gaming on the main display. With intuitive display ratios and long-lasting performance, Fold8 makes it easier to get the most out of the content, stories and ideas that matter,” Samsung said today.

Under the hood, the Galaxy Z Fold8 uses the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip as the Ultra model, and it also offers up to 16GB of memory and up to 1TB of internal storage. However, it has a smaller 4,800 mAh battery than its bigger brother, but it supports the same charging speeds.

On the camera front, the Galaxy Z Fold8 uses a simpler dual rear camera system with a 50MP wide-angle camera and 50MP ultra-wide camera. Apple’s upcoming foldable is also expected to come with just two rear cameras, and it will likely match the Z Fold8’s $1,900 price tag.

Galaxy Z Flip 8

The $1,200 Galaxy Z Flip8 is once again Samsung’s cheapest foldable phone, even though it’s $100 more expensive than last year’s model. The main changes this year are a thinner design and a more capable FlexWindow system that makes apps, insights, and actions available right on the 4.1-inch cover screen.

“Now Brief on the FlexWindow home screen brings timely insights and next steps, helping users move from glanceable information to action at the right moment,” Samsung explained today. “Flip8 also makes automation through Gemini Intelligence easier to access from the FlexWindow, allowing users to complete connected actions through side-key activation or natural voice requests.”

The Galaxy Z Flip8 offers a 6.9-inch main screen and a 4,300mAh battery that supports 15W wireless charging speeds. It’s also powered by Samsung’s Exynos 2600 chip, and it comes with just 12GB of memory and up to 512GB of storage. The real dual camera system includes a 50MP wide-angle camera and a 12MP ultra-wide camera.

New Galaxy AI and Gemini Intelligence features

Samsung said that its collection of Galaxy AI features now work across more apps and services on the new Galaxy Z series. The Now Brief feature can now offer security and privacy recommendations. With Gemini Intelligence, customers can also automate actions across more than 40 supported apps and services using natural language prompts.
