The Discover feed that appears in Widgets in Windows 11 and the New Tab page in Microsoft Edge is notably terrible, but Microsoft has a new version that will hopefully be less so.
“Today, we’re launching a reimagined content experience that brings together smarter recommendations, a more intuitive design, and a wider range of voices and formats, all to help you discover more of what matters to you and the world,” Microsoft’s Julia Beizer says. “Over time, we plan to bring this new experience to other surfaces across Microsoft, including the Bing.com homepage and MSN.com.”
The new Discover feed includes a rebuilt recommendations system with trending stories, articles, and videos personalized to your interests, “trusted content from 1,500 premium publishers,” and content from over 3,500 creators who I assume are not quite as trusted. There’s more of an emphasis on video now, with Microsoft’s partners somehow posting over 45,000 new videos each day. And the Curated by Copilot feature, which uses AI to provide access to multiple articles, has been expanded somehow, it’s not clear.
The new Discover feed is available now in the New Tab page in Microsoft Edge and in Widgets in the U.S., Canada, the UK, Australia, and India. Microsoft threatens that it will “roll out a steady drumbeat of exciting new features and bring the experience to more countries and surfaces, including mobile and MSN.com.”
