OpenAI’s GPT Store Now Offers Custom Versions of ChatGPT

OpenAI is launching today a new GPT Store, which provides access to custom versions of its ChatGPT chatbot. The company invited developers to start building these custom “GPTs” two months ago, and 3 million of them have already been created, OpenAI said today.

The new GPT Store will only be available for ChatGPT Plus, Enterprise, and Team users. The Team plan, which was also announced today, provides access to GPT-4, DALL·E 3, and other tools like Advanced Data Analysis for $25/month per user when billed annually, or $30/month per user when billed monthly.

OpenAI says that creating custom GPTs “doesn’t require any coding skills.” However, GPTs need to be compliant with OpenAI’s policies and go through a review process that involves human verification. OpenAI said that it will launch a revenue-sharing program in the first quarter of 2024, and that US developers will be “paid based on user engagement.”

“The store features a diverse range of GPTs developed by our partners and the community,” OpenAI said today. “Browse popular and trending GPTs on the community leaderboard, with categories like DALL·E, writing, research, programming, education, and lifestyle.”

You may remember that Microsoft, which uses OpenAI’s technology for its own Copilot assistant, also allows organizations to customize Copilot for Microsoft 365, the paid version of the assistant for Microsoft 365 commercial users. The company has created a low-code tool, Windows Copilot Studio, to customize the assistant for specific needs.
