Microsoft Announces March 21 Event Focusing on Copilot, Windows, and Surface

Microsoft March 21 event

Microsoft’s spring hardware event is now official. A special webpage has gone live on Microsoft’s website (via Windows Central) announcing a digital event on March 21 at 9 AM dedicated to the “new era of work with Copilot.”

“Tune in here for the latest in scaling AI in your environment with Copilot, Windows, and Surface,” the event description says. Earlier this week, Windows Central’s Zac Bowden reported that Microsoft will reveal its new Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 10 during this March 21 event, though the new devices are said to be released in two waves: Intel versions are expected to come first in April, with ARM versions to follow in June.

According to a separate report from The Verge, the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 10 models that will ship in April are commercial models that will stick with the existing designs. However, the consumer versions that will ship later this spring will include ARM processor options and bigger upgrades, including an OLED display on the Surface Pro 10 for consumers. However, according to The Verge, this redesigned Surface Pro 10 with an OLED screen won’t be revealed during Microsoft’s March 21 event.

Thanks to the dedicated AI processors in the latest chips for Intel and Qualcomm, the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 are expected to support new AI features that may launch with Windows 11 version 24H2 later this year. Earlier this week, Windows Central mentioned an “AI Explorer” feature that will function as an advanced version of Copilot that works across any app.

As Microsoft didn’t refresh its Surface Pro and Surface Laptop lines last year, the company will really need to shake things up to make Surface devices exciting again in 2024. And again, while we may not see the ARM versions of the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 later this month, Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon X Elite chip, which is designed from the ground up for Windows on ARM PCs, promises to finally give serious competition to the latest flagship mobile chips from Intel and AMD.
