ChatGPT Can Now Be Used Without an Account

OpenAI is making ChatGPT usable without an account. This is a big change that will make the chatbot even more accessible, and it will roll out gradually in all markets where the chatbot is available.

Until now, ChatGPT required users to create an account before using it. When logged in, ChatGPT users can also check their chat history, share their conversations with others, and use the chatbot with their voice.

When using ChatGPT without an account, OpenAI warned that it has introduced “additional safeguards,” including “.blocking prompts and generations in a wider range of categories.” The ChatGPT-based Microsoft Copilot, which can also be used without an account, but in that case, users can’t use its image creation capabilities and also have a limited number of responses per chat.

If the ability to use ChatGPT without an account will likely please privacy-conscious users, the company will still be using your chats to train its models by default. However, this can be turned off in settings.

With more than 100 million weekly users across 185 countries, ChatGPT remains one of the fastest-growing apps in the history of the Internet. However, this explosive growth hasn’t been without legal challenges. Speaking with Axios, a company representative also explained that even though OpenAI did some work to prevent bad actors from abusing this logged-out experience, additional changes may still be required to mitigate risks.
