Amazon Bedrock + Anthropic Claude 3

Amazon announced today that Anthropic Claude 3 Opus is generally available on Amazon Bedrock alongside Claude 3 Sonnet and Haiku.

“Today, we are announcing the availability of Anthropic’s Claude 3 Opus on Amazon Bedrock, the most intelligent Claude 3 model, with best-in-market performance on highly complex tasks,” AWS principle developer advocate Channy Yun writes in the announcement post. “It can navigate open-ended prompts and sight-unseen scenarios with remarkable fluency and human-like understanding, leading the frontier of general intelligence.”

Anthropic unveiled its Claude 3 family of large language models (LLMs) in early March. Claude 3 Sonnet landed on Amazon Bedrock that day, while Claude 3 Haiku arrived in mid-March. And with today’s release, Bedrock is the first managed service to offer all three models.

As Amazon notes, Claude 3 Opus outperforms OpenAI ChatGPT-4 and other leading models in reasoning, math, and coding, and it offers the best combination of speed and skills in the Claude family, with twice the speed of previous-generation Claude models and higher levels of intelligence. All three Claude 3 models offer advanced vision analysis, non-English language capabilities, and lower levels of hallucinations than the most popular models from other providers, Anthropic says.

“Customers can use the new Claude models to automate tasks, create new user-facing applications, and accelerate research and development across a diverse range of sectors,” Amazon adds. “They are suited for a wide array of use cases, from complex reasoning and nuanced content creation, to scientific queries, math, and coding.”
