The new Memory feature in ChatGPT that OpenAI has been testing since February is now available with a ChatGPT Plus subscription. When Memory is enabled, ChatGPT users can ask the chatbot to remember specific things for future conversations, but the app is also capable of remembering things about users on its own to be more helpful.
“ChatGPT’s memory will get better the more you use it and you’ll start to notice the improvements over time,” the company previously explained. As an example, telling ChatGPT about how you prefer text summaries or meeting notes to be formatted will make the chatbot follow your preferred format every time you ask it to summarize information. ChatGPT is also capable of remembering information about your relatives, locations you mentioned, and more.

“Based on feedback from our earlier test, ChatGPT now lets you know when memories are updated. We’ve also made it easier to access all memories when updates occur,” the company explained today.
Memory is now available to all ChatGPT Plus users. Using Memory is easy: just start a new chat and tell ChatGPT anything you’d like it to remember.

ChatGPT Plus users will always be in control of what the chatbot keeps in its memory, and they can make it forget any unwanted memories in the app’s settings. If this new Memory feature can be turned off completely, users can also opt for temporary chats and have conversations with ChatGPT without memory.
Memory is now available to all ChatGPT Plus users except those in Europe or Korea. OpenAI previously said that support for custom GPTs will be available once they’re available more broadly.
