Microsoft is upgrading the Think Deeper feature of its Copilot assistant with a more powerful AI model from OpenAI. This comes after Microsoft recently dropped usage limits for Think Deeper, which takes about 30 seconds to tackle more complex topics.
Think Deeper previously used OpenAI’s o1 model, which is part of a new series of OpenAI models designed to spend more time thinking before responding. OpenAI’s o3-mini, which was officially released in January, was described by the company as the most cost-efficient model in this new reasoning series.
OpenAI’s 03-mini model offers low, medium, and high options optimized for specific use cases. Microsoft went for the higher intelligence option which takes a little longer to generate responses.
“Remember when we announced free unlimited Think Deeper? Just got better. Now running on o3-mini high, for all your toughest questions and deepest dives,” Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman announced on X yesterday.

For ChatGPT users, access to o3‑mini and o3‑mini‑high 03 requires a Plus subscription at $20/month, though there are some usage limits. Only ChatGPT Pro subscribers paying $200/month have unlimited access to the o3‑mini‑high version.
Well, with Microsoft Copilot, all users can access this o3‑mini‑high reasoning model for free using the assistant’s Think Deeper feature. It’s as simple as clicking the Think Deeper feature in the chatbot’s search bar.
While Microsoft is spending money to provide free access to paid ChatGPT features, the company is also developing its own AI reasoning to use in Copilot according to a new report from The Information. The publication also reported that Microsoft has also been testing replacing OpenAI models with alternatives from Meta and DeepSeek.
