OpenAI Launches Android Version of its Sora App in Select Markets

OpenAI Sora

Sora, the AI-powered video generation app from ChatGPT maker OpenAI is now available on Android in select markets. The iOS app was first released in the US and Canada on September 30, and the new Android app is now available in the US, Canada, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The Sora mobile apps use OpenAI’s second-generation text-to-video model, which is capable of creating realistic-looking videos with sound effects. With a simple text prompt or an image, users can create short videos in cinematic, animated, or surreal styles with music and dialogue.

Sora also has a social element as users can remix videos created by others, follow them on the platform, and also cast themselves and their friends in AI-generated videos. This is pretty much OpenAI’s first social app, and it can almost feel like a TikTok clone with lots of AI slop.

OpenAI previously said its Sora iOS app grew faster than ChatGPT did, reaching 1 million downloads in less than 5 days. The company also compared the release of its latest model to “the GPT-3.5 moment for video.”

Sora is also available on the web on sora.com, but you’ll need an invite code to access OpenAI’s latest video generation model.
