Amazon is making its Alexa+ web app available for all users in the US and Canada who already got early access to the next-gen assistant. The new web app, which is accessible on alexa.com, first started to roll out to a subset of testers in December, and it fills an important gap in Amazon’s AI chatbot strategy.
As of today, Amazon said that Alexa+ is available for “tens of millions of customers.” Since the next-gen assistant launched back in March, Amazon said that it also noticed real momentum with “twice the conversations, three times the purchases, five times the recipe requests.”
What was still missing was a simple way to access Alexa+ without an Alexa-enabled device. With a ChatGPT-like interface, the Alexa+ web app also makes it possible to use the assistant for research and productivity scenarios. The web app also has a left navigation sidebar providing quick access to recent chats, smart home controls, calendars, shopping lists, and files shared with Alexa.
“Alexa+ doesn’t just provide information, it’s designed to take action,” the company explained today. “It can help you complete countless tasks: managing your to-do list, updating your family calendar, controlling your smart home, making reservations, and so much more. It also provides persistent context and continuity, allowing you to access Alexa on whichever device or interface best serves the task at hand, with all previous chats, preferences, and personalization seamlessly carrying over.”
Alexa+ is currently only available in early access in the US and Canada. You can sign up for early access on this page, and after early access ends, Amazon will make Alexa+ free for Prime customers and $19.99/month for everyone else.
