ChatGPT Go is Now Available Worldwide, But Free and Go Users Will Soon See Ads

OpenAI ChatGPT Go

ChatGPT Go, the cheaper subscription that first launched in India and other markets last year, is now available worldwide. However, OpenAI also announced that it will soon start testing ads in ChatGPT Go and the app’s free tier, starting with the US market.

“Ads support our commitment to making AI accessible to everyone by helping us keep ChatGPT available at free and affordable price points. ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise will remain ad-free,” OpenAI said today.

At launch, ads will appear for logged-in adults at the bottom of answers in ChatGPT, but only when “a relevant sponsored product or service based on your current conversation.” ChatGPT Free and Go users will be able to ask why they’re seeing an ad and dismiss it. OpenAI also said today that ads won’t appear in conversations where “sensitive or regulated topics like health, mental health or politics” are discussed.

As for ChatGPT Go, it’s priced at $8/month in the US, and it offers 10x more messages, file uploads, and image creation than the free tier, plus longer memory and context window. “ChatGPT Go is designed for people who want expanded access to our latest model, GPT‑5.2 Instant, at a lower price point—more messages, more uploads, and more image creation,” OpenAI explained.

At $20/month, the existing ChatGPT Plus subscription provides expanded access to OpenAI’s advanced models, plus legacy models via the model picker, custom GPTs, as well as the Codex agent and Sora video generation. As I mentioned earlier, ChatGPT Plus will also remain ad-free, just like the Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans. You can compare OpenAI’s different ChatGPT plans on this page.
