The new Gemini for TV experience that’s set to replace the existing Google Assistant on Google TV devices will continue its international expansion this spring. The new AI assistant is coming soon to Australia, New Zealand, and Great Britain, with more countries to follow throughout the year.
Gemini for TV is currently only available in the US and Canada and on select devices. The list currently includes the Google TV Streamer, TCL QM9K, QM7K, QM8K, and X11K smart TVs, Hisense U7, U8, UX models, and the Walmart onn. 4K Pro model. When enabled, Gemini for TV offers a more conversational experience for finding films and TV shows to watch, but it doesn’t stop there: Users can also ask any questions to the assistant, use it to control smart home devices, and get help with everyday actions.
In January, Gemini for TV gained the ability to display imagery, videos, and real-time sports updates in its responses. The smart TV platform also made it possible to use voice commands to adjust screen brightness or dialogue volume. Additionally, users can now ask Gemini to browse their Google Photos libraries, create slideshows, edit photos and videos, and more.
Google isn’t stopping here, and the company just announced today the rollout of new Gemini features, including richer visual help when asking questions to the assistant. In the US, Google TV users on Gemini-enabled will also be able to use Gemini to explore any topics and ask for sports briefs covering NBA, NCAA basketball, NHL, MLB, MLS, and NWSL news.
