Google’s new Gemini for Home Assistant, which is set to replace the existing Google Assistant on the company’s Nest speakers and smart displays, is now available in Spanish. Mexico is also joining the US and Canada in the list of supported countries.
Gemini for Home first started rolling out in early access in the US in late October, and Google has since been busy adding new capabilities to the AI assistant. In addition to Spanish support, Gemini for Home is also now available for kids with supervised Google Accounts. “From getting spelling help for homework to asking for a quick joke, it’s a safe, helpful way for them to learn and play,” said Anish Kattukaran, Head of Product, Google Home, Nest & Gemini for Home.

Google is also rolling out other updates to Gemini for Home today to make the new assistant better at managing smart home devices. Users can now use natural language prompts to control appliances, including smart bulbs and thermostats, and Gemini should also identify smart home devices and process requests faster. Additionally, news summaries in Gemini Live are now interactive, allowing users to ask follow-up questions.
Lastly, Google has updated its Home app to take advantage of Android 16. The app now supports edge-to-edge and predictive back navigation on the latest version of the OS.
