Anthropic Launches Claude for Word in Beta

Anthropic Claude for Word

Anthropic recently launched a new Claude add-in for Microsoft Word that can share context with the existing Claude for Excel and PowerPoint add-ins. The new AI tool is available in beta for Mac and Windows users paying for the company’s Claude Team and Enterprise plans.

Claude for Word appears in a sidebar, similar to the existing integration of Microsoft’s Copilot AI. Claude can be used to draft, edit, and revise Word documents, and it does so while preserving the existing formatting. Claude can also read comments on Word documents, and all edits will appear as tracked changes, with replies in the thread indicating what Claude modified.

Anthropic emphasized that Claude for Word can also turn workflows into skills that can be reused and shared with colleagues. “Skills package you specific workflows so anyone on your team can run them and get the same quality result,” the company explained.

Regarding security, organizations can either use Claude for Word and other add-ins for Excel and PowerPoint with a Claude account, or connect through an existing gateway to Claude models running on Amazon Bedrock, Google Vertex AI, or Microsoft Foundry. While the company said that Claude for Word works within an organization’s existing security framework, it recommends users to “always review tracked changes before accepting, especially for client-facing documents.”
