YouTube is launching a new AI-powered custom feed in the US that lets users choose what they want to see using a natural language prompt. This custom feed will be refreshed automatically, and users will be able to tweak it at any time by just editing their prompt.
“Now, you can design a personalized content feed dedicated to your specific interests, moods, or favorite topics, and pin it as a saved chip right to the top of your Home page,” the YouTube team explained. “Simply enter a custom prompt—like “give me something different beyond my usual feed” or “help me unwind after work with guided meditations under 10 minutes”—and we’ll create a new, constantly refreshing feed that you can quickly jump into at any time.”
This new experimental feature is currently only available for signed-in YouTube users in the US who have turned on their YouTube watch and search history. To get started, US users will need to select “Your custom feed” from the options at the top of the YouTube home page, and then enter a custom prompt or pick up one of the suggestions.
If custom feeds remain private, the prompts used to generate them need to follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines. Custom feed prompts will also expire after 30 days of inactivity.
At the moment, YouTube users can only create one custom feed that will be anchored at the top of their YouTube Home page. When this custom feed is refreshed, new video recommendations based on the original prompt will appear, but some videos may stay the same. “This process is similar to refreshing your standard Home feed,” the YouTube team explained on a support page.
