Anthropic today introduced a new extension to MCP for its Claude AI that brings apps to the platform similar to what OpenAI did last October with ChatGPT.
“Your connected tools are now interactive inside Claude,” an Anthropic video describing this feature explains. “Manage projects in Asana, draft messages in Slack, build charts in Amplitude, and create diagrams in Figma—without switching tabs.”
The new MCP Apps extension is available in the web and desktop versions of Claude—you can find them in the Claude directory—but they require a Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise subscription. The first apps to integrate with this feature include Amplitude, Asana, Box, Canva, Figma, Hex, Monday.com, and Slack, and Salesforce integration is coming soon.
The integration allows you and Claude to interact with capabilities in third-party apps directly from the chatbot. For example, you can search for files, preview documents, and ask questions about multiple documents stored in Box, or turn chats into Asana projects.
And while this capability isn’t there yet, Anthropic says that MCP Apps will get even more powerful when they integrate with Claude Cowork, the research-based agentic AI feature based on Claude Code. That integration is “coming soon,” Anthropic says.
