Gemini 3 Flash is Google’s new performance-optimized frontier AI model and it’s rolling out globally now in just about every Google offering you can think of. Compared to the original Gemini 3 release, Gemini 3 Flash is smaller, faster, and optimized for what Google now calls “everyday AI.”
“For too long, AI forced a choice, big models that were slow and expensive, or high speed models that were less capable,” Google Labs and Gemini vice president Josh Woodward writes. “Gemini 3 Flash ends this compromise. Gemini 3 Flash delivers smarts and speed.”
Gemini 3 Flash features “PhD-level reasoning capabilities” that Google says rival those of larger AI models and a leap in multimodal understanding with support for images, audio, video, and text. It’s rolling out now in the Gemini app as the default choice for “Fast” and “Thinking” questions, though Gemini 3 Pro remains as a choice with “Pro” and is the better choice for advanced math and code.
Gemini 3 Flash is also rolling out now in Google Search as the default model for AI Mode globally. Google is also rolling out Gemini 3 Pro via a new “Thinking with 3 Pro” option in AI Mode in the U.S., and Nano Banana Pro via “Create Images Pro,” also in the U.S.
For developers, Gemini 3 Flash is coming to Google AI Studio, Gemini CLI, the Google Antigravity agentic development platform, Android Studio, and Firebase AI Logic. And businesses can begin accessing this new model in Vertex AI and Gemini Enterprise.
