Google Announces Gemini 3.8 Live and 3.8 Live Extended Thinking

Google announced Gemini 3.8 Live and 3.8 Live Extended Thinking today, its most advanced live dialogue models yet.

“Gemini 3.8 Live and Gemini 3.8 Live Extended are major upgrades in intelligence and parallel reasoning that make them more intuitive to collaborate with and use to execute complex tasks using your voice,” Google’s Tom Ouyang and Malini Jaganathan write. “The two new models bring advancements in near real-time reasoning to more effectively enable voice agents and make conversing with AI feel more intuitive and intelligent.”

Gemini 3.8 Live is built for scale and cost efficiency, combining conversational intelligence with fluid dialogue and visual grounding, Google says, while Gemini 3.8 Live Extended Thinking is built for high-complexity tasks, with increased intelligence and multi-step reasoning. They make speaking with Gemini across the Gemini app, Google Workspace, and Search more fluid and collaborative, which Google says will help users tackle more complex tasks using just their voice.

The two new models are available now to developers in the Gemini API and Google AI Studio, to the enterprise in Gemini Enterprise, and to everyone via Google Search Live.
