Apple Vision Pro Gets Mobile Device Management Features, More with visionOS 1.1

Apple Vision Pro

Apple released visionOS 1.1 yesterday, which is the most significant update for its Vision Pro headset since its launch in February. This update introduce mobile device management (MDM) features for enterprise users, improvements for EyeSight and digital Personas, and more.

IT pros can now use MDM to configure Vision Pro headsets, deploy apps, and also erase data remotely. This should make the virtual reality headset easier to adopt for companies ready to explore different “spatial computing” scenarios.

visionOS 1.1 also improves the headset’s virtual keyboard with various bug fixes, and cursor positioning for text input should also now be more accurate. Connecting to a Mac using Mac Virtual Display should also be more reliable, and Apple fixed issues related to Universal Control, the feature that lets users interact with Vision Pro apps using their Mac keyboard and trackpad.

With this update, Apple also improved the Vision Pro’s EyeSight feature, with better rendering of the eyes on the headset’s external displays. Apple also improved the appearance of Personas, the digital representations of Vision Pro users that are shown during FaceTime calls. This feature, which remains in beta, has probably been one of the less polished aspects of the Vision Pro software since launch.

Apple released other software updates this week including iOS 17.4, which enables alternative app stores and browser engines for iOS users in the EU. However, iPadOS 17.4, which was also released earlier this week, doesn’t include these DMA-related changes.
