iOS 17.5.1 Fixes Bug Causing Deleted Photos to Reappear

iOS 17.5.1 bug deleted photos

Apple released iOS 17.5.1 and iPadOS 17.5.1 yesterday, and iPhone and iPad users should probably install these updates as soon as possible. Indeed, the new patches include a fix for a bug that was causing deleted photos to reappear in users’ Photo libraries.

“This update provides important bug fixes and addresses a rare issue where photos that experienced database corruption could reappear in the Photos library even if they were deleted,” the company explained in the release notes for iOS 17.5.1. This is all the company said about a pretty serious issue that legitimately raised some privacy concerns.

Apple prides itself on being a company that designs every product and service to keep user data safe and secure. However, following the release of iOS 17.5 and iPadOS 17.5 last week, there have been several reports from users on Reddit who saw deleted photos reappear in their libraries, including some deleted many years ago.

While this was definitely an embarrassing bug to fix for Apple, it just took the company a little more than a week to come up with a fix. iOS 17.5 was also an important release with the introduction of cross-platform tracking detection and the ability to download apps directly from the web for iPhone users in the EU. With Apple’s WWDC developer conference being just 3 weeks away, the company is likely hard at work on the presentation of iOS 18 and other major updates for its software platforms.
